This section is a little bit about me so that anyone considering allowing me to detect on their land is aware of who I am and what I represent.
I was brought up and currently live in South East Kent. As a child I spent many weeks of the year on Kent farmland with my family hop and fruit picking, never thinking at the time about the treasures that may lay under my feet.
When I was 16 I joined the Metropolitan Police Cadet Corp and remained a member of the Metropolitan Police for the next 32 years serving in Central London, North West London and then covering most of the London area as a police dog handler because my police dog was trained to work & support the force firearms unit. I ended my service as an instructor at the police dog training school at Keston in Kent in charge of the breeding and training of all police puppies. I retired from the police in 2005 however I have continued to work and I am still employed full time.
I have had any number of interests and hobbies over the years. Judo, Boxing (judging & refereeing), Photography, Fishing, Dog Training and for the last 5 years Metal Detecting.
As a metal detectorist I believe in doing things by the book. I report my finds to the local Finds Liason Officer so that the history of the land that they were found on can be recorded. I only ever detect on land where I have the owners permission and I share the information on my finds with the landowner.
So far my best finds are a small gold ingot that may be from the Bronze Age but may also be of Viking origin. The British Museum find it difficult to accurately age ingots found without other artefacts. I have also found a ring that has the markings of the Knights Templar cross and it was found in close proximity to a farm once owned by the Knights Templars. A Beautiful Roman brooch with the pin still intact and a coin dating from the Greek Empire of the 4th Century BC as well as a number of medieval coins and artefacts.
I am currently a member of two Kent based metal detecting clubs and can provide references if required.
